APPRENTICESHIP INFORMATION
The
Milwaukee Joint Apprenticeship & Training Committee's Construction
Electrical Apprentice Program adheres to the uniform standards developed by the National Joint Apprenticeship and
Training Committee (NJATC)
and the
State Electrical Joint Apprenticeship Committee.
These rigorous standards are used to select and train literally thousands of qualified men and women. Through the NJATC, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) offer hundreds of local programs like this one providing apprenticeship and training in the following areas:
Regardless of the area of training you wish to pursue with the IBEW and NECA, you can rest assured our goal is to provide you with quality training.
In addition to receiving skill training on-the-job, our apprentices are provided trade related classroom training that produces competency and pride which lead to true craftsmanship.
BENEFITS THROUGH IBEW AND NECA
IBEW members working with union employers are provided fringe benefits unmatched by other employers. Health and welfare benefits along with local and national retirement plans provide security for you and your family during your working years. Furthermore, this allows you to enjoy a dignified retirement following a very productive and rewarding career.
Apprenticeship requires a signed agreement between you, the IBEW-NECA sponsor and the State of Wisconsin which insures quality training on-the-job and in the classroom. In apprenticeship you literally EARN WHILE YOU LEARN.
As you advance through your training, you will receive predetermined pay increases. No surprises! No empty promises! WE DELIVER!
Not all education and training programs pay you to learn. However, IBEW-NECA programs not only compensate you while you are learning, they guarantee promotion to deserving apprentices. As you develop more complex job skills and improve your knowledge, you receive your just reward.
In signing an apprenticeship agreement, you commit to participate in classroom related training as well as on-the-job training. You are expected to be at your assigned job on time everyday; alert, ready and willing to learn as you work. You LEARN BY DOING. Your on-the-job training is supervised by a qualified journeyman craftsman.
Qualified competent journeymen stand ready to teach deserving apprentices. We do not limit our training to teaching individuals to simply perform manual labor (job tasks). We train men and women to craftsmanship status.
WE PRODUCE A COMPETENT CRAFTSMAN
The IBEW-NECA apprenticeship programs pride themselves in their product: an individual with unmatched job Skill, Knowledge and Attitude. We train individuals to have PRIDE, DIGNITY and SELF-RESPECT.
IBEW construction members are not just common workers. They are America's builders and are at the heart of the American Dream.
Upon completing your apprenticeship, you will be presented with your graduation diploma. This certificate signifies your readiness to begin your career as an IBEW-NECA trained electrical worker. You will also recieve a state completion certificate.

Apprenticeship program sponsors are selective. They will evaluate your educational background, looking specifically for course selection and accomplishments.

We are seeking men and women of all races who demonstrate the best CHARACTERISTICS, APTITUDE, MOTIVATION and PERSONALITY traits conducive to success in our trade. All qualified candidates are interviewed by employer and union representatives in an effort to select the best candidates.
A good candidate is one with a record of having done well in school, especially in math, science, English and Technology Education areas, one who has demonstrated reliability and a sincere desire to succeed, and one who has a positive attitude and a desire to work hard.
Don't be influenced by those who see the electrical construction trade as an occupation requiring only a strong back and a weak mind. The electrical trades are becoming more technical each day.
PREVIOUS EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING
Previous electrical schooling or training may help qualify you for apprenticeship. As a technical school graduate or military veteran, with training in the electrical field you may be a good candidate for one of our programs.
If you are employed in a dead-end job, with no benefits, or in a program that never delivers on its commitments, contact the Joint Apprenticeship & Training Committee at 414-543-9060.
Over 80 percent of our apprentices complete the program and enjoy meaningful careers as highly paid journeymen electrical workers. This success rate is virtually unmatched in the electrical industry and testifies to our personal commitment to you.
